Hajj begins
A Sea of White Descends on Mina: Millions Begin Hajj Pilgrimage
The annual Hajj pilgrimage has begun, with a vast tent city in Mina, Saudi Arabia, welcoming millions of Muslims from across the globe. This spiritual journey, one of the five pillars of Islam, sees pilgrims undertake a series of rituals over several days in Makkah and its surroundings.
This year, at least 160,000 pilgrims from Pakistan alone join the massive gathering, a powerful testament to the faith’s unifying power.
A Journey of Faith and Reflection
After spending the night in Mina, pilgrims move on to the plains of Arafat on Saturday for the pivotal “Waqoof” – a day of standing in prayer and seeking forgiveness. This central event is accompanied by a powerful Hajj sermon, translated into 50 languages and reaching over a billion listeners worldwide.
The journey continues to Muzdalifa, where pilgrims collect pebbles for a symbolic ritual representing the rejection of temptation. They then return to Mina for animal sacrifice, marking a time of reflection and gratitude.
Challenges and Resilience
This year’s Hajj takes place under the shadow of the recent Gaza conflict, adding a somber note to the pilgrimage. However, it also showcases the enduring spirit of faith. King Salman’s decree to host 2,000 Palestinian pilgrims, including families of martyrs and the wounded, exemplifies the spirit of compassion and solidarity within the Islamic community.
The scorching summer heat, with predicted highs of 44°C, presents another challenge. Saudi authorities have implemented measures like misting systems and heat-reflective road coverings to ensure pilgrim well-being. Staying Safe During Hajj
Officials have also issued crucial advice to pilgrims. Text messages urge them to stay hydrated by consuming over 2 liters of water daily and carry umbrellas for protection against the harsh sun.
As millions embark on this sacred journey, we offer our best wishes for a safe and spiritually fulfilling Hajj experience.
