Weight Loss Supplement Is Courting Controversy And Drawing Comparisons To Ozempic

Kourtney Kardashian, celebrity and wellness entrepreneur, has introduced a new product through her brand, Lemme, called GLP-1 Daily. The details of the supplement were unveiled on Lemme’s official Instagram page. The post described GLP-1 Daily as a “breakthrough innovation in metabolic health,” designed to naturally increase the body’s GLP-1 production, curb appetite, and support healthy weight loss.

GLP-1 is a hormone produced in the gut after eating, playing a key role in regulating blood sugar, controlling hunger, and enhancing metabolism. When we consume food, GLP-1 triggers a feeling of fullness, aids in insulin production, and slows digestion to maintain stable glucose levels. However, as we age, the natural production of GLP-1 diminishes, resulting in a slower metabolism, increased cravings, and difficulty managing weight, which can contribute to metabolic concerns.

Since the announcement, GLP-1 Daily has gained attention for its bold claims and its comparison to Ozempic, a popular but controversial medication often used for weight loss. According to Healthline, “Ozempic and other GLP-1 drugs mimic the hormone’s action by activating its receptor, leading to weight loss and lower blood sugar.” However, Lemme’s new product does not contain synthetic GLP-1 or function as a receptor agonist like Ozempic.

According to the brand, GLP-1 Daily is “an all-natural supplement with no known side effects,” featuring three clinically tested ingredients: Eriomin, Lemon Fruit Extract, Supresa Saffron Extract, and Morosil Red Orange Fruit Extract. Research cited by Healthline indicates that saffron extract has been shown to reduce hunger in a study involving 60 women with weight management challenges.

The product is designed to enhance the body’s GLP-1 levels, reduce hunger, improve insulin sensitivity, and promote healthy weight management. Lemme describes it as a “game-changing scientific breakthrough.”

Despite the excitement, Kourtney Kardashian’s new supplement has sparked controversy on social media. Comments on Instagram range from skepticism about its efficacy to accusations of it being a “money grab.” Some users even questioned the availability of any real results from those who have tried the product ahead of its official launch. As with many Kardashian ventures, the product has attracted both interest and criticism.

Lemme GLP-1 Daily will be available to the public starting September 16, 2024, through the brand’s website. Customers can opt for a subscription at $72 per month (around Rs 6,000) or make a one-time purchase for $90 (around Rs 7,500).
