Israel Intensifies Bombardment of Lebanon, Thousands Flee South
In a dramatic escalation of violence, Israeli warplanes have been relentlessly targeting southern Lebanon since the early hours of Monday morning. Residents of the coastal city of Tyre reported a barrage of airstrikes, causing widespread destruction and forcing thousands to flee their homes.
Haidar Al-Rouz, a local resident, described the chaotic scene as residential buildings collapsed and the city emptied of its inhabitants. “Everyone is fleeing,” he said. Israeli aircraft were seen patrolling various regions of the country, including Mount Lebanon, where the Hezbollah militant group has a limited presence.
Beirut’s Be’r Hassan institute has become a refuge for displaced families, with hundreds seeking shelter. Volunteers are working tirelessly to accommodate the influx of people, transforming classrooms into makeshift living spaces. One volunteer, Qassim, expressed concern that the building’s capacity would be exceeded by the end of the day.
Janna Ayash, a 70-year-old woman from the southern village of Kafra, recounted the harrowing ordeal of escaping the intense bombardment. She described the desperate situation, having gone without food for four days and witnessing heavy traffic on the damaged roads. Ayash shared the heartbreaking story of her son’s recent death in an airstrike and her struggle to persuade her other son to leave their home.
As the humanitarian crisis deepens, thousands of Lebanese are facing an uncertain future, displaced by the relentless violence and fearing for their lives.
