Iran ready to end nuclear standoff with West, President Pezeshkian tells UNGA

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the United Nations General Assembly, expressing Iran’s readiness to end its longstanding nuclear standoff with the West. He emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue and also called for an immediate end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.

During his speech, Pezeshkian strongly criticized Israel, accusing it of committing “genocide in Gaza” and demanded an immediate halt to Israeli actions. His remarks reflected Iran’s continued opposition to Israel’s policies in the region.

While Iran’s leadership is eager for the U.S. to lift sanctions related to its nuclear program, tensions with the West have escalated. This has been aggravated by Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on October 7, which has intensified Tehran’s support for Russia in the Ukraine conflict.

In his address, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peace, stating, “We seek peace for all and have no intention of conflict with any country. Iran opposes war and stresses the need for an immediate end to the military conflict in Ukraine.”

Iran’s diplomatic position remains focused on reducing tensions while advocating for a peaceful resolution to international conflicts. The hope for improved relations with Western powers continues, but recent developments have complicated the path forward.
