The White House condemned recent remarks made by former President Donald Trump about Congresswoman Liz Cheney, describing them as both “unacceptable” and “dangerous.” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed the administration’s concerns on Friday, emphasizing President Biden’s commitment to rejecting political violence and fostering unity.
In her statement from Air Force One, Jean-Pierre highlighted the risks of endorsing or encouraging any form of political violence, saying, “It is dangerous to speak to political violence, to talk about political violence, to lift up political violence.” She noted the need for civility, stressing that inflammatory language has no place in American political discourse, particularly when the focus should be on bringing the nation together.
The remarks came after Trump, while campaigning in Arizona, referred to Cheney, a prominent critic of his, as a “war hawk” and suggested she “should be fired upon.” Cheney responded by stating that such rhetoric was characteristic of authoritarian behavior that threatens democratic values, saying, “This is how dictators destroy free nations.”
The exchange has sparked widespread discussions on the importance of responsible political speech, especially amid growing concerns over rising polarization and threats of violence. The White House underscored that Biden remains dedicated to promoting unity and will continue to denounce any language that incites division or conflict.
