Liz Cheney Calls on George W. Bush to Support Kamala Harris’ Campaign for Presidency
Former Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney is urging former President George W. Bush to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential campaign. During her recent appearance on The New Yorker Radio Hour, Cheney openly called on Bush to take a stand, emphasizing, “I can’t explain why George W. Bush hasn’t spoken out, but I think it’s time, and I wish that he would.” Her statement follows a series of endorsements from her and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, who also served in Bush’s administration.
Over recent weeks, Liz Cheney has become increasingly involved in Harris’ campaign, showing up at public events and rallying support alongside the vice president. Her vocal support marks a significant departure from her previous conservative affiliations, underscoring her commitment to a political shift that she feels is crucial in today’s climate.
Interestingly, Bush’s daughter Barbara Bush has also shown her support for Harris, and she joined campaign activities in Pennsylvania with Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz. Speaking to People Magazine, Barbara mentioned, “It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters… I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights,” signaling her belief in the values the Harris-Walz campaign promotes.
Despite this pressure from allies and family, George W. Bush and his wife Laura have remained neutral. They have stated that they do not plan to endorse any candidate in the upcoming election, choosing to keep their political stance private for the time being.
As Liz Cheney continues her active support, her appeal to Bush is seen by some as part of her broader advocacy for policies that protect democratic values and women’s rights—issues that resonate strongly in Harris’ campaign platform. This move could signal a realignment among some Republicans who are concerned about the direction of their party and are looking for leadership that, in their view, prioritizes unity and progress.
